2010 FALL SEASON LECTURE SERIES
Increase your gardening knowledge. Plant to attend several selections from our Fall Lecture Series. We offer exciting, interactive classes taught by educated and experienced instructors. All classes run approximately 1 hour. There is a $10.00 fee for each class unless otherwise stated. Registration is required as space is limited. Register early at the store or call 215-887-7500.

INSTRUCTOR: Nancy Stevens (Director, Montgomery County Penn State Extension)
Nancy will demonstrate and discuss how to preserve and store harvested fruits, vegetables & herbs.

SEED STARTING YOUR FALL VEGGIES
INSTRUCTOR: Gloria Foran
Start your fall veggies indoors to help extend your fall harvest with Gloria’s help. She will show you how to select your fall seeds and start them indoors. This ties in with her next lecture on Saturday, August 21st.

Is your lawn tired from the summer? Need to tweak your existing lawn? Want to start a new lawn and have no idea where to begin? Come in with soil samples, measurements, and the sun/shade availability. Mia will entertain you with her enthusiastic teaching style. A fun interactive discussion will ensue.

FRUIT TREES
INSTRUCTOR: Anne Myers
Anne, our store manager, grew up on a fruit farm and will be your teacher for this informative course. Anne will cover basic pruning and rejuvenations as well as general care of fruit trees. This is a class for the both the novice and veteran. Her continuation of this class is on Sat, Oct. 2nd with brambles, berries & grapes.
BRINGING YOUR HOUSEPLANTS IN FOR WINTER
INSTRUCTOR: Mia Mengucci, PCH
Mia, a PLNA certified Horticulturist, will explain how to prep your plants for bringing them in for the winter, including repotting, bug ID, and watering techniques.

BRAMBLES, BERRIES & GRAPES
INSTRUCTOR: Anne Myers
Anne continues her fruit course and will be going over basic pruning and rejuvenation of your plants. This is a popular course, so sign up early! This is also for the novice and veteran.
COMPOSTING

Mia is our resident “trash” talker! She will explain how easy it is to start your own compost and how to apply your black gold once completed.

WORM COMPOSTING
INSTRUCTOR: Janet Wilson
Janet is a 15-year veteran of vermicomposting and a volunteer at Morris Arboretum for over 20 years. She brings her experience to show you how easy it is to start your own worm farm right in your home. Janet will cover all the basics and dispel any misconceptions you may have about our wiggly friends. There will be a drawing for a free worm composter at the end of the lecture for those attending.
PREP ROSES FOR WINTER

Want to put your roses to sleep for the winter? Come in and learn the how to approach on pruning and prepping your roses for the cold months ahead.

Katelyn, a fourth generation Green, and Ricky, a recent Saul HS grad, will be leading several different activities with children during the morning hours.

STARTING A TERRARIUM
INSTRUCTOR: Elizabeth Leo
Liz has worked in and around plants for nearly 9 years inheriting the gardening bug from her mom. Liz will go over all the basics of starting and maintaining a terrarium. You will be creating your own terrarium to take home with you!

ADDING FALL & WINTER INTEREST TO YOUR GARDEN
INSTRUCTOR: Tom Horn
Tom, our co-manager of the nursery with a BS from Del Val College, will help you choose interesting trees, shrubs & other plants to delight you during the off-season when you may not think there is much out there!
ORCHIDS
INSTRUCTOR: Margie Robins
Margie, our resident orchid expert, will go over all the basics in orchid care. Margie has a degree in Horticulture from Delaware Valley College and draws on experiences from having worked at Morris Arboretum and the Highlands Historical Society. Learn how to keep your orchids healthy and happy. Bring in your own orchid to have your specific questions answered.

THANKSGIVING CENTERPIECES
INSTRUCTOR: Denise Kammer
Create your own attractive fall centerpiece for your own Thanksgiving Table. Greenhouse Manager and floral designer Denise will lead you through all the basics to create your own beautiful crafted centerpiece. Fresh & dried materials will be used and are included in the cost of the workshop.
