February 1

February 4
Grow bigger and healthier seedlings this year with a Hydro-farm Hot House with Heating Mat.

February 5
Continue to fertilize green houseplants with Jack’s Classic 20-20-20 once a month.

February 6
It is time to apply a second round of Bonide Wilt Stop on all your broadleaf evergreens. This product is an anti-desiccant that will protect plants from the drying winds and sun of winter. Spray on a day when temperatures are above 42 degrees Fahrenheit.

February 7
Inspect your trees to determine if pruning is required. Prune out any water sprouts, rubbing or crossed limbs, and disease or insect-ridden branches. Primex carries a great selection of pruning tools from Felco, Fiskars, Bacho, Gilmour and The Rumford Gardener.

February 8
February is a wonderful time to sit back and plan next year’s garden. Review your notes from last year to assist in planning garden improvements in 2006.

Keep an eye out for spider mites on houseplants. Check humidity trays daily and replenish evaporated water. If a mite infestation occurs, use Bonide Mite-X made from botanical oils for a safe and effective control.

February 11
Continue to feed the birds, they count on the food that you supply the as they return daily to your feeders. Primex carries Lyric Birdseed and C&S Suet Cakes.

February 12
Continue to prevent deer damage with applications of Liquid Fence and Messina Deer Stopper.

February 13

Valentine’s Day

Remove dust build-up on houseplants by giving them a shower. You may use Miracle-Gro Leaf Shine to clean and shine hard leafed foliage plants, such as: Philodendron, Ivy, Pothos, Rubber Plant, Ficus, Spathiphllum, Snake Plants, Dieffenbachia and others.

Gently replace perennials as they heave from the ground on warm winter days.

February 25
Prune soft-wood fruit trees, peaches, plums, apricots and nectarines before the buds begin to swell in the spring.

Keep houseplants from leaning against your glass windows, cold glass will damage the foliage.

February 27
